Jean-Baptiste Muard

Jean-Baptiste Muard (Vireaux, 1809-Pierre-Qui-Vire, 1854) was a French Benedictine, reformer, and founder of religious orders.
Ordained in 1834, he was parish priest of Joux-la-Ville and then St. Martin d'Avallon〔Charles Warren Currier, ''History of Religious Orders'', p. 96.〕 before becoming a monk.
He founded the French province of the Cassinese Congregation of the Primitive Observance〔(''Catholic Encyclopedia'' )〕 and the Society of Saint Edmund in 1843. In 1850, Jean-Baptiste Muard founded the monastery of Sainte Marie de la Pierre-qui-Vire,〔See :fr:Abbaye de la Pierre-Qui-Vire.〕 in the Morvan.
